ASHLAND COUNTY — Two Mansfield residents on a motorcycle suffered serious injuries Sunday in a hit-skip accident in a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Ohio 302 in Jackson Township.
According to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2016 Honda GL1800 Gold Wing motorcycle was traveling southwest on U.S. 42 while a white pickup truck was southbound on Ohio 302.
Troopers said the truck and the motorcycle collided within the roundabout and the driver of the truck fled the scene after the collision.
Harry Turner, 60, was driving the motorcycle, according to the patrol, which said Candace Turner, 59, was the passenger.
Harry Turner was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to Akron City Hospital with serious injuries.
Candace Turner was taken by Polk/Jackson/Perry Fire Department to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with serious injuries, as well.
The crash remains under investigation at this time, troopers said.
The patrol was assisted by the Polk/Jackson/Perry Fire District and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.
The roundabout was closed to traffic traveling southwest on U.S. 42 for about 45 minutes while the crash was investigated. The report from the patrol didn’t include a time when the accident occurred.
