It is with deep sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the unexpected passing of Melissa Mabe. She passed away at home the morning of July 1, 2025. She battled for many years with various chronic illnesses and the complications that came with them. In the last six months, she faced numerous hospital stays and unplanned surgeries. She braved every challenge with strength and endurance until her heart couldn’t withstand anymore.
Born on March 3, 1972, her presence in this world meant so much to so many. She was one of a kind. She had a special light about her, a warmth that provided comfort and security. A witty humor that made the worst of days better. Even when she was going through more than she could handle herself, she would have time for others. Melissa had a nurturing and empathetic spirit, and spent 27 years dedicated to taking care of others as a registered nurse. She left a lasting impact on so many lives.
Melissa was born to be a mom. From helping to look after her three little brothers as a child, to starting a family of her own. She was everything a mom should be. She went above and beyond to fill her children’s lives with kindness, comfort, and unconditional love. She had a way of making her children feel understood and valued; they were her pride and joy.
She spent 36 years of her life with her soulmate, Scott. They met in class at Mansfield High School. He held her hand the entire class; and ever since, has held her hand through all of life’s joys and heartbreaks. Their love for another was true and unwavering, enduring life’s hardships and the darkest of times.
Melissa loved nothing more than time with her family. Everything was better when everyone could be together. She made each holiday, family vacation, game night, and simple conversation special. In the last year, she became a grandmother. A role she embraced with everything she had. Her love and affection for her grandson beamed from her. She found profound joy in watching him grow over the last year.
Melissa was surrounded by wonderful friendships. She made close friends wherever she went. She was always happy to be with her Besties. Countless memories were made and constant laughs were shared whenever they got together.
Melissa had a deep love and diverse taste of music. It was always playing in her home, and she would often fill the rooms with her beautiful singing. She loved taking pictures with and of her family. The walls of her home are filled with them, displaying the happiest of moments. She had a knack for cooking and loved to prepare meals for her family. She was naturally crafty and artsy. She was good at everything she tried, full of so many hidden talents and interests. To truly know her and be loved by her, was the greatest of gifts.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Scott “Mr. Richard;” children, Sylvia (Steve) Winzentsen, Christopher Mabe, Brookelynn (Ian) Hammeran; and grandson, Henry Hammeran. She is also survived by many close family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Judy Burge; father, Charles Burge; brother, Heath Bowman; and father-in-law, Terry Hall.
Taken from her anniversary tribute to her husband, ”Love can grow even in the darkest of times; it can lift you when you think that nothing will, and you really can love someone more today than yesterday.”
Your love will continue to grow and be felt despite your absence from this world. Your memory will live on in those who were fortunate to know you and be loved by you.
Her immediate family is taking time to grieve. To honor her wishes, a private gathering has taken place. In lieu of flowers and donations, dedicate time to do something with your loved ones. Call them, visit them, hug them. Our time is so very precious and often shorter than it should be.
