SHELBY — A 74-year-old Shelby woman recently released a country music parody single and video through her own record label.
Dyanna Lynn White said she was “truly inspired” by one of her favorite artists, Justin Moore, and his 2011 crossover hit “Bait A Hook,” which he co-wrote with Rhett Akins and producer Jeremy Stover.
“Our business model inspiration is the iconic parodist Weird Al Yankovic and his classic ‘Eat It,’ that is a parody of ‘Beat It’ by Michael Jackson on his historic ‘Thriller LP,'” she said.
“The music video is hilarious. (It) was constantly played on MTV back in the day and he (Yankovic) is still going strong today.”
“Eat It” was awarded a Best Comedy Record Grammy in 1985 and today has millions of streams worldwide on the Digital Music platforms. The music video has gone viral with 54 million views on Yankovic’s YouTube channel.
“I am hoping that folks get a laugh out of ‘Bake A Cake,’ (and) share it with loved ones and it goes viral on the web,” White said.
(Below is the music video for White’s country music parody, “Bake A Cake.”)
White published the lyrics with her ASCAP Publishing Company and founded White
Records to release the single worldwide via DistroKid on digital music platforms.
The “Bake A Cake” single was produced by White and recorded, engineered and
mixed by Randie Kilgore at Buzz Kilgore Recording in Shelby. The “Bait A Hook” music backing track was licensed by Tency and Recisio SAS of Lille, France.
White also produced, directed and edited the “Bake A Cake” music video with her
record label, publishing it on social media platforms. She created the images used
in the video to depict the story of the lyrics by using an artificial intelligence program.
When asked why she created her own record label, White said she “surmised that
there are not any labels or publishers that want to sign a little old lady” to release her
music and share it with the world.
“I am extremely blessed with those who believe in me as well as my music and with today’s digital technology, it is possible to do just that,” she said.
White, a 1969 graduate of Shelby High School, is also a professional photographer.
