BUTLER: “Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV). One of Jean Oswalt’s favorite bible verses, she was a living testimony, handing over her cares upon the Lord…and usually while laughing and with a smile. Jean Oswalt, 84, of Butler, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. With unwavering faith and a joyful heart, Jean left this world exactly as she lived in it—trusting in Christ, surrounded by love, and smiling brightly.

Born January 23, 1941, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Jean was the daughter of Ray and Winifred (Davis) Reamsnider. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Oswalt, in North Liberty. The two were married on February 2, 1957, and together shared 56 beautiful years of marriage—marked by an unshakable devotion to each other and their family.

Jean’s positivity and vibrance followed her through every season of life choosing joy even in life’s most challenging moments. Her focus was always first on Jesus, then her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Jean’s voice could always be heard from the stands, cheering with unmatched enthusiasm. You never had to wonder where Jean Oswalt was sitting—she made her presence known with encouragement, pride, and an unmistakable laugh.

To know Jean was to be loved by her. She never met a stranger, and she had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, known, and deeply encouraged. She was “everyone’s mom,” the first to welcome you in, and the last to let you leave without a hug or a laugh. Jean could turn any day into a celebration, finding any excuse to gather the family, pull out the card games, and fill her home with joy. Parchesi, Euchre, and Rook were her favorites—but more than the games, she loved the laughter and connection they brought. She delighted in cross country trips with Bob camping in their “Minnie Winnie” taking their time and visiting all the sites.

Jean was a faithful member of Zion’s Refuge. Her life was a living testimony of 1 Peter 5:7: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” She had no fear of death, confident in the promises of Christ and was ready to meet Him face to face. Her favorite place to be was in His presence, worshiping along with her church family. Jean was a passionate attendee and loathed the rare occasion that she was unable to attend weekly services.

Jean’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Her unmatched smile, unmistakable laugh, and irreplaceable presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jean is survived and deeply loved by her children; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Vickie Oswalt of Stedman, North Carolina and daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Jeff Burton of Butler: grandchildren Nate and Brittany Turner, Eric and Michelle Oswalt, Kurt and Angie Oswalt, Josh and Tiffany Eckert, Jerod and Emily Eckert, Jordan and Brittany Eckert, and Jessica Burton; 21 great grandchildren; sister Judy Hopping; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bob Oswalt; as well as 2 siblings.

Jean’s request was to celebrate her life; to laugh and smile. Her Life Celebration Service will be Monday, June 16, 2025 at 11 am in Zion’s Refuge, 1400 Lucas Road (Rt 39), Mansfield, Ohio 44903 where her family will receive friends the hour prior from 10 am – 11 am. Pastor Dave Parsons will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion’s Refuge.
