Bellville: Dale E. Baker, a beloved member of the community and a true steward of the land, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 11, 2025 leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and the enduring rhythm of farm life. Dale was a devoted farmer whose work ethic, resourcefulness, and warm sense of humor touched everyone who knew him.

Dale was born Lexington on June 4, 1932 to the late Glen and Mary (Anderson) Baker and graduated from Johnsville High School in 1951. He married Ruth Marie Williams a year later on April 18, 1952. During his tenure in the military they were stationed in Georgia and returned to Richland County where Dale worked at Tappan Stove Co. and began his passion for farming.

Over the course of his life, Dale cultivated 600 acres across three successful farms, raising crops, Hereford cattle, and operating one of the tri-county area’s largest hog operations. His love for farming ran deep, and his pride in his work was unmistakable—especially when riding a John Deere tractor. Dale had a special connection with animals, especially dogs, and treated them with the same kindness and care he showed everyone around him.

Dale was a man of faith and service. He was a faithful member of The Pines Christian Church and he also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. A long-time member of the Grange he served as deputy of Morrow County, and state Grange for several years. Along with Ruth, he was active in Grange youth group and held fun nights. Dale was also a servant to Perry Township serving as Trustee for over 30 years. His giving spirit was matched by a hands-on approach—always the first to lend a helping hand and the last to ask for anything in return.

He had a gift for woodworking, crafting crosses, birdhouses, and walking canes, each piece shaped with care and quiet craftsmanship. In retirement, Dale enjoyed wintering in Frostproof, Florida, soaking up sunshine and sharing music with a group of musician friends.

Music was a joyful part of Dale’s life. He played stand-up bass with the gospel group Restoration Heirs, lifting spirits and praising God through song. He looked forward with anticipation to the annual music festival he hosted at Baker’s Brookside Park featuring old time Gospel and bluegrass music, camping, food, and family fun. His sense of humor and a touch of ornery charm made every gathering more lively and every moment more memorable.

Dale Baker will be remembered as a hard-working, funny, kind, and faithful man who lived his life with integrity and heart. His legacy will continue to grow in the fields he tended, the lives he touched, and the songs he helped carry.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Ruth, children Marvin (Libby) Baker, Rebecca (Greg) Striker; grandchildren Paul Baker, Victor Baker, Tom Kyler, Levi Kyler, Aaron Kyer, Sadie Kyler, Brandie (Garrett) Brownstein, Dallas Holbrook, Kristy (Matt) Long, and Randy Striker; great grandchildren Violet, Finn, Milo, Austin, Mason, Ellie, Drake, and Vivian, Evelyn along with many extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Neal Baker.

Friends may call Friday, May 16, 2025 from 5-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 am. Family friend Kenny Keen will speak and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
