LOUDONVILLE — The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum in Loudonville has announced its next international travel program: a guided tour through Peru from Aug. 5 to 11, offering participants the chance to explore Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and the legendary Machu Picchu.
The trip is part of the museum’s ongoing effort to connect people with history through real-world experiences.
“Travel isn’t just about sightseeing — it’s about understanding the world and our place in it,” said Kenny Libben, museum curator. “These tours help bring history to life in a way no exhibit ever could.”
The itinerary for the Peru tour includes a curated blend of cultural, historical, and scenic highlights. Travelers will begin in Peru’s vibrant capital city of Lima before heading into the Andes to explore the former Inca capital of Cusco and the lush Sacred Valley.
Highlights include visits to the market and ruins of Pisac, the fortress of Ollantaytambo, and the world-famous citadel of Machu Picchu — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most iconic archaeological destinations on the planet.
The tour also features a visit to Moray, known for its circular Inca agricultural terraces, and Maras, home to thousands of salt pans still harvested by hand today.
While the tour will lead a moderate pace, the itinerary includes high-altitude sites, stairs, and uneven terrain. A fair level of physical fitness is recommended.
This announcement comes at a critical time for travelers: the Peruvian government is considering limiting or closing access to Machu Picchu in the near future to protect the site from overuse and long-term damage.
“If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Machu Picchu in person, this may be one of the last chances to do so,” Libben added.
The tour includes six nights’ accommodations, guided tours, most meals, domestic flights, private transportation, and round-trip train tickets to Machu Picchu via both the Expedition and Vistadome services.
The full cost is $2,450 per person, based on double occupancy, with a limited number of single-room upgrades available for an additional fee.
International flights are not included in the package, which Libben explained allows travelers to choose the flights that best fit their schedule, budget and comfort level. At the time of the announcement, economy tickets are less than $700 for round-trip flights.
The museum notes that its past international trips have sold out quickly, and interested travelers are encouraged to act soon.
