BUCYRUS — The winners of Wombat Solar’s first grants of 2025 focus on preserving Crawford County’s legacy and heritage, from agriculture to the arts.

Wombat Solar is proud to announce the 13 recipients. The Crawford Agricultural Society received the largest grant, $4,000. The society will use the funding to update fair facilities and prepare for Junior Fair Awards.

The grants will also contribute to upcoming summer events. The Bratwurst Festival is preparing for a major guest performance. Crawford County Public Health is preparing for Guard Care, a free community health clinic from the Ohio National Guard.

Kate Siefert, Health Commissioner with Crawford Public Health, says, “GuardCare is an amazing partnership between the Ohio National Guard, the Ohio Department of Health, Crawford County Public Health and community sponsorships to provide a wide variety of health services at no cost (dental exams, lab work, mammograms, etc), regardless of income.

This event would not be possible without local contributions, like Wombat Solar’s grant, to cover the cost of the medical supplies and needed supports for the National Guard medical teams that will be providing these services.”

Bucyrus Little Theatre, Galion Girls Summer Softball, and New Washington Youth Baseball are other new recipients this quarter.

Cindy Light with the Bucyrus Little Theatre says, “We are very appreciative of Wombat’s support of the performing arts. We are so happy to have a new digital screen. This will be a really cool thing for our community.”

The Theatre’s production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live” will be the first to use this new technology this June.

Repeat recipients include The Salvation Army, Jefferson Township Fire Department, Wynford Local Schools, Freedom Fellowship Food Pantry, Crawford County Arts Council, Life First Ambulance District, and Crawford County Society for Aiding the Physically Disabled.

The Wombat Solar Community Grant Program is designed to empower and uplift local nonprofits that play a pivotal role in enhancing the community’s well-being. Each quarter, the program selects deserving organizations and provides them with financial assistance to support their vital operations and initiatives.

“This quarter’s overwhelming number of applications reminded us just how much great work is happening, and still needed, throughout Crawford County,” said Leah Cordy, Director of Community Relations at Wombat Solar.

“We’re proud to support a record number of organizations this round, and even more motivated to keep showing up for this community. As we look ahead, we remain deeply committed to being a long-term partner in driving meaningful change across Crawford County.”

Applications for the Q2 Wombat Solar Community Grant Program are now open.

All nonprofits and charitable organizations operating in Crawford County are encouraged to apply for the next round of funding to further their missions and continue making a positive difference in the community.

Applicants can apply for up to $5,000 in funding, which can be used to fund a specific project or operating expenses for an existing operation. The application closes on June 15.
