MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Art Center was buzzing with activity on Sunday afternoon as the 80th annual “May Show” opened with an artists’ reception at the 700 Marion Ave. facility.
The parking lot was filled with art lovers of all ages, who streamed in to view paintings, photographs, sculptures and more in the two-level art center.
According to organizers, the “May Show” features innovative work in all mediums, representing a broad range of exciting and diverse talent.
“The May Show is a highlight of the year, giving us a fresh look at current works from across the region, and has become a premiere show for the state. Both artists and visitors consider it a motivating and beloved exhibition,” organizers said.
The show will remain at the Mansfield Art Center through May 18.
The guest jurist for the show was Mary Urbas.
“We are honored to have Mary Urbas serve as the juror for the 80th May Show. With over 46 years of experience in the professional art world, Mary has made significant contributions as a gallery owner, curator, teacher, consultant and award-winning fiber artist,” said George Whitten, director of the Mansfield Art Center.
Urbas has a BFA in textile design and silk screen printing, with minors in weaving and printmaking, from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
“Mary has also served as the gallery coordinator and exhibition curator for The Gallery at Lakeland Community College,” Whitten said.
