Adena Corporation, through harboring strong client relationships, has made their mark in Gunnison, Colorado – opening their new office.

A client of Adena’s had moved out West, and while the construction company’s Senior Vice President Josh Darling was vacationing in the Rocky Mountains, the client reached out.

“He had moved to fill the position of a CEO for a healthcare group. It turned out I was pretty close to his area, so I toured his hospital. Six months later, Adena was out there for our first project, which was an OB/GYN remodel for Memorial Regional Hospital in Craig, Colorado,” Darling said.

This initial project sparked a wave of new opportunities, with the company steadily building relationships with other healthcare organizations throughout the Western Slope of Colorado. The success of the Memorial Regional Hospital project demonstrated Adena’s ability to adapt to the differences of mountain construction while maintaining their high standards of quality.

Since beginning operations on mountain towns across the Western Slope “West of the Rockies” in 2017, the company has completed over $60 million in projects across the region, overcoming unique challenges along the way.

“Mountain construction presents unique challenges with climate, logistics, and staffing, but overcoming these obstacles makes the successful completion of each project even more rewarding,” Darling said.

One of Adena’s standout projects includes the St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville, Colorado. Located at an elevation of 10,200 feet, it is the highest-altitude hospital in the United States. The high-elevation conditions presented logistical and environmental challenges that required strategic planning and execution, utilizing different techniques for different altitudes and weather conditions.

According to NBC9 News in Denver, “The new hospital is right next door to the old St. Vincent hospital that was built in 1958. The previous hospital often needed expensive repairs to stay open, nearly closing its doors in 2015.”

This opening also brings a higher level of healthcare to the area.

The company has gone beyond healthcare, though, partnering with Western Colorado University in Gunnison on several projects, including the renovation of the Hurst Hall Petroleum Lab and the revitalization of the Natatorium on campus. They will also begin work on the Buena Vista Library Expansion.

After continuous work and back and forth operations from Ohio to Colorado, there are now headquarters out West. This permanent presence allows Adena to better serve their growing client base in the region and respond more quickly to project needs.

Adena is looking to expand its permanent, local Western team, seeking several key positions: project manager, project engineer, superintendent, carpentry foreman, and carpenters. There are also ongoing employment opportunities at their offices in Mansfield, Columbus, Florida, and Virginia.
