MANSFIELD — They were the top two girls basketball players in north central Ohio this winter, and both will play college basketball next year.
Shelby’s Eve Schwemley and Clear Fork’s Mel Blubaugh have a couple more things in common after the District 6 girls basketball teams were introduced Monday.

Both Schwemley and Blubaugh were selected the Player of the Year in their respective division — Schwemley in Division IV and Blubaugh in Division V.
Moreover, both were tabbed to play in the Ohio North South All-Star game. Shwemley is the district rep in the Division I-IV game, while Blubaugh was chosen for the Division V-VII game.
The Ohio Dominican-bound Schwemley led the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring. She averaged 21.5 points a game, leading the Whippets (21-2, 14-0) to their seventh straight MOAC crown.
Blubaugh, who is headed to Mount Vernon Nazarene, averaged 18.5 points a game for the Colts. Clear Fork (20-3, 12-2) was MOAC runner-up.
Division III
Ashland’s Kennedy Lacey was selected to the Division III first team.
A sophomore, Lacey averaged 14.5 points a game. The Arrows won their first-ever Ohio Cardinal Conference championship this season.
Ashland’s Madison Hoffman and Camryn Cox were both second-team picks. They were joined by Madison’s Morgan Cook.
Division IV
Lexington’s Makaree Chapman earned a spot on the Division IV first team alongside Schwemley. Chapman averaged 20.6 points a game.
Shelby’s Serena Ramsey, Lexington’s Tatum Stover and Ontario’s Rylee Milner were second-team picks. Shelby’s Charlie Niese was an honorable-mention selection.
Shelby’s Natalie Lantz was selected the Division IV Coach of the Year.
Division V
Clear Fork’s Brinley Barnett joined Blubaugh on the Division V first team. Barnett averaged 11.5 points a game.
Crestview’s Georgia McFarland was a second-team pick. Teammate Tori Kidney was an honorable-mention pick.
Division VI
Mansfield’s Zy’Eir Davis earned a spot on the Division VI first team after leading the Flames to a share of the Mid-Buckeye Conference championship. Davis averaged 14.4 points a game.
MCS’s Bailee Nelson was an honorable-mention selection.
Division VII
Lucas freshman Riley Trumpower was selected to the Division VII first team. Trumpower averaged 11.6 points a game and helped the Cubs to a share of the Mid-Buckeye Conference crown.
Lucas’ Katie Griffey, Plymouth’s Kendyll Tolbert and Crestline’s Joclynn Noblit were second-team picks.
