MADISON TOWNSHIP — The Madison girls basketball season got off to a tough start, but the Rams seem to have found their footing — and used it to step past Lexington on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Phil Schmook’s squad has won four of its last six games, after starting the season 0-5. The Rams rolled over Lex with a dominating 43-28 performance at Madison Middle School.
Bryn Kiley and Morgan Cook each scored 11 points for the Rams, while teammate Caliyah Clapper contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Tatum Stover, Zoe Borowicz and Makaree Chapman each scored six points for Lexington.
The Rams led 11-7 after the first quarter, but opened things up with a stifling defensive effort in the second period, and maintained a 21-9 edge at the half. The lead ballooned to 35-15 in the third quarter, before settling in at 35-18 heading to the final eight minutes.
Madison hit four threes and didn’t give up a triple defensively, limiting Lex to 0-of-6 from behind the arc. The Rams improves to 4-7 overall, 3-2 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference and will welcome Ashland on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Lex shot just 22 percent (12-of-55) from the field in falling to 3-6, 2-3, and will host Ontario on Monday.
