MEDINA: Carl Faust always said, “If you can’t do it right and be proud of it, then don’t do it at all.” Carl was hardworking, a prankster, problem solver, and dedicated. More than anything he was a man of integrity who loved his family.

Carl E. Faust passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, following an extended illness, in Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina. He was 83. He’s at peace now, with no more pain, discomfort or frustrating memory issues.

Born August 1, 1941 in Mount Vernon to parents Carl Eugene and Esther (Cookman) Faust, he was graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1960, and worked with the Tappan Company through the 1960s.

Carl owned and operated Faust Heating & Cooling, Inc. – his own HVAC company, for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He loved his work; performing a job that he enjoyed and his customers were special to him. Often while driving he’d say “I put the furnace in that house” or “I installed the air conditioning unit in that home.” He was proud of his work but always remained humble.

Carl worked hard and played hard. He was gifted at fixing and repairing just about anything….and if he couldn’t, Carl would just YouTube the answer. He was a great storyteller and practical jokester. He even had the Bellville police and mayor responding to one of his “fun pranks”.

He was a member and Past Master of Hanover No. 115 Masonic Lodge, a member of King Cyrus Chapter and Valley of Cleveland Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and was Past Master of Jefferson Grange in Bellville

As a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville, he had served on church council, as an usher, and with the Lutheran League Program. More recently he had attended church of the Western Reserve Masonic Community.

Carl loved to travel and was blessed to visit Florida, Hawaii and Alaska. He was drawn to the vastness and beauty of the American West and also enjoyed cruises. Carl loved to fish and took memorable trips to Canada including extra special moments in the Canadian wilderness with his grandsons. His favorite season was spring and the promise of new life and warmer weather in the coming season.

Described as a caring and generous person – ready to help when needed. One reason he loved gardening so much was to share his vegetables (especially his tomatoes and corn!). He will be remembered for his honesty, a great work ethic, and respect for others.

Carl had a great love for his family, and a strong faith in God. He enjoyed time spent with his family, attending grandchildren’s school, sporting, and musical activities, and visiting them at college. He was a proud grandpa and great grandpa who loved all of his grandchildren. His eyes would light up each time he saw his great granddaughters. His fondest memories were spent with his family on the lake at their rural Perrysville farm.

Carl was at peace with his life and more importantly at peace with his Lord.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Ellen Bowers Faust, of 61 years, whom he married January 17, 1963; their children Karen (Gary) Brown of Wooster, and Brian (Beth) Faust of Bellville; grandchildren Makenzie Brown, Gabriel Brown, Kaleb Brown, Katelyn Brown, Brandon (Andrea) Faust, Dr. Jacob (Brooklyn) Faust, and Bailey (Jessica) Faust; two great grandchildren Ella Mae and Emry Lowell Faust; sisters Rosemary Smith of Fredericktown and Connie (Donnie) Kerr of Utica; and nieces and nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Faust and brothers-in-law Larry Smith and Larry Bowers.

The Faust family will receive guests Friday, October 25, 2024 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where masonic services will begin at 6 pm. His memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Pastors David Neuwirth and Patrick Bailey will speak. Interment will be in Bellville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Butler Nutrition Center or BNOC, may be made at the funeral home.
