FINDLAY — Joy Kim made history Tuesday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.

A St. Peter’s freshman, Kim fired a 4-over 76 at the Division II district tournament to earn a spot in state tournament Oct. 20 at Firestone Country Club in Akron.

Kim is the first St. Peter’s girls golfer to ever qualify for the state tournament and the first St. Peter’s golfer to make the trip since Ethan Keller in 2008.

Her 76 was good for medalist runner-up honors Tuesday. She finished three strokes behind medalist Alyssa Rishty of Tiffin Calvert, who carded a 1-over 73.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament. Kim was the top individual qualifier.

It’s already been quite a season for the young Spartan. She was the sectional champion and now adds All-Northwest District honors.

Clear Fork’s Ella Schmidt shot a 124 Tuesday.

The Colonel Crawford girls qualified for the district as a team and finished ninth with a team total of 407. Senior Madison Gray led the Eagles with a 91, good for 16th overall.

Wauseon won the team title with a score of 367. Fremont St. Joseph (371), Tiffin Calvert (380) and Van Buren (381) earned the other state berths.

The other individual qualifiers were Patrick Henry’s Kasey Nelson (84), Otsego’s Elizabeth Budge (84) and Edison’s Annabelle Seville (84).
