MANSFIELD: Sandra McBride, ever the strong-willed presence and friendly face, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2024 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
Born in Galion to Paul and Velma (Volk) Sheehe on October 25, 1938 Sandy was one of eleven siblings. Resilient in the face of adversity, she remained steadfast throughout her youth. After her first husband, Don Berry, passed unexpectedly at the age of 26 Sandy met Herbert McBride in an instance of fate and before long, the couple married. She and Herb lovingly raised children Darlene and Jeff. Sandy delighted in her family and always took excellent care of those she loved. Sandy spent 43 years behind the wheel of a school bus transporting students of the Madison school district to school. She retired in 2011.
Sandy was always a hard worker, and though she rarely called off, she always found time to be joyful and adventurous in her free days after retirement. With husband Herb, she traveled to nearly every state in their motorhome. The couple also enjoyed drives in their baby blue 1966 Ford Galaxy convertible, which they often showed off in parades and classic car events. Sandy’s care and dedication to her family was evident not only in the meticulously clean home she kept, but in the quality time she always found to spend with them. She was strong, dependable, determined, and independent for as long as she was able.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene Bohland of Lexington, and son Jeff McBride of Mansfield; grandchildren Collin McBride of Mansfield, Chase McBride of Mansfield, Jeremy (Victoria) Bohland of TX, Mike (Bristan) Bohland of Mansfield and Matt (Kelley) Bohland of Lexington; great-grandchildren Grant, Gracie, Tori, and Rousey; siblings Margaret Poland, Helen Coldwell, and Dorothy McBride; and her special little dog Precious, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Don Berry, second husband Herb McBride, son-in-law John David Bohland, great grandchild Isla Bohland, and siblings Paul Sheehe, Mary Alice Farnsworth, Malcolm Sheehe, Shirley Brumenshenkle, Thomas Sheehe, Rosemary Acorn, and Peggy Green.
A private graveside service will be held at Bellville Cemetery with burial following.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Sandra’s name to Washington Township Fire and Rescue.
