SHELBY — Do you like in-depth reporting, big ideas and free snacks?
If so, you need to mark your calendar for Thursday, Sept. 5.
That’s when Source Media Properties is wrapping up its latest special reporting project with a free community event.
During Tomorrow’s Talent: Takeaways and Talkback, our team will share valuable insights and actionable strategies for students, educators, employers, local government officials and anyone else invested in the future of north central Ohio’s workforce.
The evening will feature a presentation from the team behind Tomorrow’s Talent, followed by a question-and-answer session with reporters Grace McCormick, Mariah Thomas and Katie Ellington Serrao.
“I’ve learned so much from surveying business leaders in our community on the current state of the workforce and what they’re doing to prepare for the future,” McCormick said.
“The reporting team here has interviewed more than 60 people in the education, business and research spheres and we’re excited to bring everyone into the same room to realize unique solutions to workforce concerns.”
After the presentation, guests are invited to stick around for refreshments and informal discussion.
“This event is about more than highlighting our work,” Ellington Serrao said.
“It’s also about creating a space where people from various sectors in our community can come together, talk about workforce development and hopefully make some connections that lead to future collaboration.”
“We know solid local journalism can be a springboard for positive change — but only if people take what they learned and apply it in their own lives and communities.”
Source reporters said they also hope to get feedback from the community on what kind of additional reporting they’d like to read.
“This reporting took me down many rabbit holes. I ended up with so many more story ideas beyond what we’d initially pitched as part of this project,” Thomas said.
“I also have so many ideas in the realm of workforce development I still want to pursue in the future. I look forward to keeping this conversation we’ve begun going.”
