BOWLING GREEN — Madison continued its storybook run through the Division I postseason on Tuesday night.
Layla Amount scattered three hits and struck out eight as the sixth-seeded Rams upset No. 5 Findlay 7-2 in the Bowling Green district semifinal at Bowling Green State University’s Meserve Field.
The Rams (20-5) will play defending Division I state runner-up Anthony Wayne in the district final at 5 p.m. Friday at BGSU. Anthony Wayne advanced with a 4-0 win over Toledo Start.
Madison took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Emily Nolan led off with a single to center and Kyleigh Reiter walked before Campbell Kiser stroked a one-out single to plate Nolan. Allie Shrader was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Reiter scored on a passed ball.
Findlay tied it with two in the home half of the fourth on a two-run home run by Addie Sprang, but Madison reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the fifth.
Shrader doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on Stankovich’s groundout and scored when Libby Bekeleski’s line drive was misplayed in the Findlay outfield for an error. Bekeleski scored on Izzy Wamsley’s two-out triple to make it 4-2.
The Rams put it away with three in the sixth. Kiser belted an RBI-double and scored on Stankovich’s two-run single.
Wamsley had three hits and drove in a run. Kiser and Stankovich each had two hits and two RBIs. Shrader and Reiter scored two runs apiece.
