Student delivers power point presentation

SHELBY — Cayden Moore, a student at Pioneer Career and Technology Center from the Crestview school district, gave an informative presentation at the March Board of Education meeting, on Monday, March 18.

Moore explained the dual labs that he attends. He is active in the Collision Repair and Power Equipment program and the Early Placement Job program.

Cayden is employed with Franklin Body Shop, in Mansfield. He recently repaired a female student’s automobile in one day, which included painting the car.

Cayden told the audience that attending Pioneer was the best decision he had ever made.

Clay Frye, Director of Operations reported Pioneer BPA students competed at the State Leadership Conference recently.

Four students placed in the state and earned a chance to compete at the National Contest in May in Chicago.

The following students who will compete are the following: Gabe Melvin, Senior, IT Support, Homeschooled, placed 5th in Computer Network Technology; Jason Lambert, Senior, Cybersecurity, Goal Digital Academy, placed 4th in Server Administration; Bradon Stidam, Senior Cybersecurity, Shelby High School, placed 2nd in Server Administration; and Brice Browning; Senior, Cybersecurity, Celeryville Christian School, placed 1st in Computer Security. 

Browning is the defending state and national champion.

Pioneer honored 20 outstanding students during the National Technical Honors Society Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, March 5.  Seven students were honored as two-year members and 13 students were inducted as first-year members.

The Pioneer Spring Job Fair students took place on Friday, March 15. More than 60 local businesses, colleges, and organizations were represented.

February Students of the Month were LaVanna Sanders and Chloe Clayborne. 

LaVanna is a junior in the Dental Assisting program, from Crestline, and is the daughter of Adria Sanders.

Chloe, is a junior from Lexington High School and is the daughter of Jake and Stephanie Clayborne.

Student placement and application review for the 2024 school year is in full swing

Application numbers have increased again this year. Student Services is working hard to place students at this time. Associate School Counselors will receive acceptance letters to distribute to next year’s incoming classes soon.

Gavyn Bazley, Treasurer, reported the Rover Pipe Line settlement is still pending.  Also, Pioneer will be paying an increase for the College Plus students since tuition has been raised.

Mike Grady, Legislative Liaison, reported the state is looking at how Ohio compares with other states regarding property tax.

Pioneer BOE meets on the third Monday evening of each month at 6 p.m.
