EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was originally published in the October newsletter of the North End Community Improvement Collaborative.

Tonya “Toni” Jones’ background is in community health work. She helps families and individuals overcome barriers related to health and living.

“It feels good when you can help them,” she said of having a job where she can literally help her neighbors.

“I like working with people anyway. Anything I can do that makes them smile or makes their day, it’s great for me.”

Toni started with NECIC in June in her current role but she has worked for Wright State and Head Start in the past in a similar role.

“I would like to stay here at NECIC because to me it’s growing and they’re doing a lot for the North End, so I just want to be a part of that,” she said. “Helping to grow the North End and make it better.”

She has her license as a community health worker, an associate’s degree in human services and license for SWA social work assistant and her CDA chemical dependency assistant.

In addition to the community health work, Toni said she tries to help out in other ways as much as she can.

“I work with another lady with the pre-diabetics, trying to catch people now before it gets too bad,” Jones said. “But, I also like working with the elders and I help with the Neighbor Up Night programs.

“So, basically here is why I like it so much is because we all help each other.”
