Faith Owens' photograph of the downtown gazebo took first place in last year's contest: "I took a wide variety of shots, but I believe this one captures multiple types of decorations that were put up."

MANSFIELD — It’s Christmastime in the city of Mansfield, and we’re looking for someone to capture our best side.

Cleveland Financial is sponsoring its second-annual photo contest aimed at highlighting the holiday lights currently decorating downtown Mansfield. First prize will be awarded $500, second prize will be awarded $250, and third prize will be awarded $100.

Any photo submitted to the contest should focus on the light displays in the downtown business district of Mansfield. Submissions are encouraged to use their artistic eye and help others see the city from a new perspective.

Submit your photos, then browse through the gallery and vote for your favorites – this year, the community will determine the winner of this year’s contest.

Submissions will be accepted until Monday, Dec. 28. Winners will be contacted shortly thereafter.

The goal of the contest, according to Chuck Hahn of Cleveland Financial, is to document the current light displays in downtown Mansfield while also giving inspiration as to where the lights could expand in future years.

This fall, the RCDG Beautification/Holiday Lights committee was able to raise over $9,000 this fall to rehabilitate the 38 oldest downtown holiday wreaths.

When the wreaths come down in January, volunteers will strip them and ship the frames off to be dressed with new garlands, ornaments, and LED lights to match the newer wreaths.

Last year, the Downtown Mansfield Holiday Lights committee awarded first prize to Faith Owens, second prize to Breanna Crunkilton, and third prize to Braxton Daniels. The committee also awarded an honorable mention to David Kirst.

Anyone interested in donating or volunteering to the Downtown Mansfield Holiday Lights committee should contact RCDG for more information at 419-522-3211.
