NORWALK — He was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-American team last fall and Lexington’s Ryan Parker played like an All-American on Monday.

A senior midfielder, Parker scored a hat trick and added two assists as the top-seeded Minutemen rolled to a 6-0 win over No. 6 Vermilion in the early game of Division II district doubleheader at Robert J. Bishop Stadium.

“I don’t know what he had for breakfast. Hopefully he eats it again,” Lexington coach Peter Them said. “I’ve been waiting for a game like that from him all season. … That’s what you expect from the kid.

“He just stepped up tonight. Hopefully he’s got some more in the bag for later.”

Parker misfired on a penalty kick in the eighth minute, but assisted on Trevor Fehr’s goal with 26:05 to play in the first half. Less than a minute later, Isaac Weber gave the Minutemen (15-3-0) a 2-0 lead when a Vermilion defender failed to clear the initial shot.

Parker scored the first of three consecutive goals with 7:43 left in the first half for a 3-0 lead. He scored his second off a Will Hostetler assist with 33:43 in the second half and added his third just over a minute later off a Fehr assist. He capped the evening when he assisted on Teddy Togliatti goal with 10:16 to play, giving Lex a 6-0 lead.

“Going out there and missing the penalty … I knew that I’d get more opportunities and I just had to bury them,” Parker said. “I wouldn’t have been able to do that without how great the team played tonight. Right now we’re playing some of our best soccer.”

While Parker had the offense humming, Lex’s stingy defense was busy pitching its third straight postseason shutout. Lex has outscored its three playoff opponents 33-0.

“I thought we did some good things (defensively),” Them said. “There wasn’t a lot of pressure. The couple chances they did have were self-inflicted.

“We’ve got some formation things we’re working on going forward just to get a little more sounds. We played a smart game.”

Ontario (11-4-3) will take on Lexington for a district title Thursday at a site and time to be determined. The Warriors beat Norwalk 3-2 in the second game.
