ONTARIO — The Ontario girls basketball team rebounded in resounding fashion on Tuesday night after a tough weekend.

The Warriors romped past Lexington 41-23 in a non-conference encounter to overcome a heartbreaking, 75-72 double-overtime loss on Saturday at River Valley.

“We were coming off of a tough double overtime game on Saturday,” Ontario coach Mitch Willeke said. “It was ugly at times, but we pulled through and made some plays.”

Ontario (3-3 overall) jumped on top from the opening tip and never relented. The Warriors moved on top 14-8 in the opening quarter and stretched the margin to 27-14 at halftime.

Willeke’s squad continued the onslaught by opening a 36-20 gap after three quarters before coasting to the victory.

“We just couldn’t finish tonight,” Lexington coach Jessica Brokaw said. It was a tough loss, but we just got to get in the gym and look forward to our game against Ashland for the OCC.”

Senior Mecca Sewell scored 13 points to pace Ontario, while senior Ashten Vavra and sophomore Macy Mangan both notched eight points for the Warriors.

Senior Gabby Stover scored nearly half of Lady Lex’s 23 points, finishing with a dozen.

Lexington (1-4) outrebounded the Warriors 52-39, but couldn’t handle Ontario’s defensive pressure, which forced 29 turnovers.

Lady Lex hosts Ashland on Thursday night, while the Warriors welcome Madison to the O-Rena that same night.
