MANSFIELD — The Richland Bank on Marion avenue was robbed for the second time in less than a week on Monday afternoon.
Authorities say the suspect is an African American male around 225 pounds. He stands over 6 feet with black hair, brown eyes and a beard. Witnesses say he was wearing a black beanie and light grey hoodie and blue jeans.
Kristie Massa, communications director of the bank said a man came in around 4 p.m. and passed a note to a bank teller asking for money.
“It was a different person than last time,” Massie said. “Same location, different person.”
Massie said she did not see the note, but that it implied the man had a weapon.
“He never showed the weapon,” she added.
No one was injured or threatened during the incident, she said.
“The staff handled it accordingly — got him in and out of here as quickly as possible. Staff is more important than anything else.”
Richland Bank was closed after the incident, but will be open during normal hours starting Tuesday, Dec. 13.
To prevent more robbery attempts, Massie said her bank is working with Mansfield Police and their security company.
“Unfortunately, it’s that time of year,” she said. “Christmas time — people get desperate and do these sorts of things.”
On Dec. 6, a suspect entered the Marion Avenue Richland Bank shortly before 4:20 p.m. and demanded money. No weapon was observed, but the threat of a weapon was implied.
That suspect is believed to be a white male in his mid-40s with a goatee and wearing a tan hooded jacket. After the suspect received an unknown amount of money, he exited the bank and fled in a northern direction.
The Mansfield Police Department responded to the robbery with a canine unit, with the FBI and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations also responding. Mansfield Police declined comment at the scene.
