MADISON TOWNSHIP — The 2016 Madison High School graduation took place on Friday night at Madison Junior High School.
Here is a closer look at the top students.
VALEDICTORIAN PROFILE
John Marhefka
Parents: Scott and Terri Marhefka
Activities: John has participated in Cross Country, Baseball, Track, Jazz Choir, Student Council, Spanish Club, OCC Leadership and National Honor Society. He has been the Cross Country MVP for 2 years and he won the Coach’s Award for Track.
He has been given the honor of going to the Rotary Club and Optimists Club Luncheons. He also has been given several awards including being nominated for the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship and the Wayne E. Miller Scholarship.
Students Plans: John is going to be attending Grace College in the fall and plans to major in Spanish and Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, he plans to pursue his Masters and Doctorate and become a professor of Chemistry.
Catherine Loughman
Parents Names: Misty and Dave Loughman
Activities: Katie is the President of Key Club, President of Student Council and Executive Committee Vice President. She is also a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Club and the co-founder of the Math Club.
Katie is a four year varsity letter recipient in swimming and ended her swim career at the Division I District Meet. She is also a three year letter letterman for soccer.
Student’s Plans: Katie will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to dual major in Mechanical Engineering and Aero Wheel Engineering with a discipline in Aerospace.
Kaitlin Henderson
Parent’s Name: Beth Henderson
Activities: Kaitlin is President of National Honor Society, member of Key Club, Student Council, OCC Leadership, French Club and Treasurer for the Class of 2016. She was also HOBY Class Representative, an Academic Scholar, participated in Varsity Soccer, Swim Team and lettered in Track. She also received the Coaches Award for Track.
Student’s Plans: Kaitlin is going to attend Loyola University in Chicago to major in Psychology with a pre-med. She then plans to attend Med School with the hopes of one day becoming a child psychiatrist.
SALUTATORIAN PROFILE
Tierra Alexander
Parents: Tanya Gibson and Rod Alexander
Activities: Tierra earned a varsity letter in Track and Field, Golf, Marching Band and has an Orange Belt in Martial Arts. She was also close to earning a varsity letter in Soccer. She also participated in Key Club, serving as Vice President during her junior and senior years; Student Council; OCC Leadership; Drama Club; Spanish Club, serving as Vice President during her Senior year; French Club and serves on the Executive Committee for the Class of 2016.
Student’s Plans: Tierra plans on attending Clemson University in South Carolina. She would like to major in French or International Business with a minor in Spanish.
