CRESTLINE — Maddie Engler capped her high school softball career in style.

A senior at Crestline, Engler was recently selected the Mid-Buckeye Conference Player of the Year.

The University of Rio Grande recruit batted a jaw-dropping .627 with nine doubles, five triples, five home runs and 32 runs batted in. She scored 36 runs and stole 32 bases for the Bulldogs this spring.

Engler was joined on the All-MBC first team by teammates Lillian Higgins and Brooklyn Gregory. Higgins batted .448 with 20 RBIs while Gregory hit .525 with 20 RBIs.

Lucas’ Isabel Alt, Maddie Boyer and Marissa Caugherty all were first-team picks. Alt batted .478 with a pair of homers and 29 RBIs, while Boyer hit .452 with 27 runs scored. Caugherty batted .368 with 19 RBIs.

Loudonville’s Payton VanSickle, Karena Burgess, Olyvia Fenton and Goldie Layton were the other first-team picks.

Mansfield Christian’s Elisa McFadden and Noel Cline were second-team picks. They were joined by Lucas’ Kailyn Caugherty, Loudonville’s Natalee Buzzard and Maddie Kline and Kidron Central Christian’s Angela Miller.

Honorable-mention selections included Mansfield Christian’s Abby Heininger, Lucas’ Trinity Stickney, Loudonville’s Alesha Felix and Kidron Central Christian’s Micah Kozel Steiner and Molly Green.

Mansfield Christian’s Kelly Taylor was selected the MBC Coach of the Year.
