MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP — An Atlanta, Ga. man, who walked away from his own crashed vehicle, was struck and killed by another vehicle Thursday night.

The accident happened on Interstate 71 southbound near mile post 183 in Ashland County in Montgomery Township at 10:07 p.m., according to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A 2014 Kia Sorento was northbound on Interstate 71, actively being reported as a reckless driver. The vehicle crashed into the center median guardrail as troopers were being dispatched, according to the patrol.

Troopers responded to the scene and the driver of the crashed vehicle crossed into southbound lanes on foot and was struck by a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Trax just before troopers arrived.

The pedestrian, Tyrrell Dushaun Louden, 38, of Atlanta, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Dustin Reese, 50, of Lancaster, Ohio, was not injured and remained on scene.

I-71 was closed for approximately three hours. Agencies assisting at the crash scene were Ashland Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation, however, the driver of the Chevrolet is not considered at fault, troopers said.
