Willard Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment
May 10 @ 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
FreeTHE BRITISH ARE COMING and 8th-grade students at Willard Middle School are mustering into the militia for the 19th annual Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment! Students will reenact famous events and battle scenes from the era, like the Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and the surrender at Yorktown. Step back in time as these young adults in period clothing demonstrate the home and daily life of minutemen and colonial citizens. Learn about crafts and activities such as tin punching, paper making, land surveying, military drilling, hearth kettle cooking, food preservation, knitting, pottery, spinning, and so much more. General George Washington may even make an appearance. Also, participating in the event are volunteers from Grant’s Company of the 42 Highlanders, as well as about 30 other community volunteers and students from Tri-Rivers.
After completing an application, including primary source research and first-person character sketch on a Revolutionary War soldier who moved to the Firelands of Ohio, 25 students will have the opportunity to participate in a dinner and ball. The evening activity will be completed with live vocal and instrumental music. These eighth-graders will also spend the night in the encampment. Saturday morning they will portray life in the encampment for the community.
