Substitute teachers are in need across north central Ohio.

MANSFIELD — The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) is currently accepting applications for substitute teachers for the 2024-2025 school year.

With the school year coming to a close, many districts are still looking to fill vacancies.

While some districts have opted to use substitute teachers, others are still struggling to fill positions.

This can lead to a strain on teachers as they are often called upon to fill in for absent teachers.

According to MOESC, substitute teachers can help to lighten the load of teachers and ensure that students receive quality instruction while their full-time teacher is away.

The Ohio Department of Education allows districts to use substitute teachers with either an associate degree or high school diploma.

Each local school district has the option to set the educational level for their substitute teachers by adopting a resolution.

This means that districts can set their own requirements for substitute teachers, including educational standards, certification, and other requirements.

To be eligible to work as a substitute teacher, applicants must submit a substitute teachers application. This application can be completed online.

Applicants must also have a current BCI/FBI background check. Fingerprinting can be completed at the MOESC office for a fee.

Teachers must submit their application by scheduling an appointment. MOESC has waived the application fee for the 2024-2025 school year.

The deadline to submit an application for the 2024-2025 school year is Sept. 23, 2022. Applications will be accepted for the 2024-2025 school year only.
