The Home Energy Assistance Program is available to help Ohioans.

COLUMBUS — The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is now accepting applications for 2024.

The program helps Ohioans pay their heating bills by providing assistance to those at or below 175% of the federal poverty level.

HEAP applications are available online, and also can be downloaded and accessed from the Ohio Department of Development’s website.

HEAP also offers assistance with paying electric heating bills, and natural gas heating bills.

In order to be eligible for the program, household income must be at or below 175% of the federal poverty level.

In addition, there must be a household member with a birth date or Social Security number.

Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency is also required.

If you are eligible for the program, the HEAP benefits can help you pay your energy bills after Jan. 1, 2024.

However, if you need immediate assistance with paying your energy bills, you are encouraged to contact your local Energy Assistance Provider.
