MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP — Firelands Electric Cooperative District 8 Trustee Elaine Oswald has received her Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) certification through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
This five-course program focuses on honing the governance and fiduciary skills essential for those who serve as representatives on their cooperative’s board of trustees.
An ever-changing business environment has imposed new demands on electric cooperative trustees, requiring increased knowledge of changes in the electric industry, new governance skills, and a solid knowledge of the cooperative principles and business model.
Electric co-ops in Ohio have a commitment to work through NRECA to sharpen this body of knowledge for the benefit of their electric cooperative member-owners.
The national CCD program requires attendance and demonstrated understanding of the basic competencies contained in five core courses, which includes: director duties and liabilities; understanding the electric business; board operations and processes; strategic planning; and financial decision-making.
Oswald has served on Firelands’ board since June 2022 and represents co-op members in Mifflin Township south of State Route 42 in Ashland and Richland counties.
She was presented with her certificate by Board President Dan Schloemer during the April 23 board meeting.
