LOUDONVILLE – Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District (LPEVSD), in cooperation with Loudonville Police Department and other area law enforcement, was placed in lockdown following notification of police activity in the Loudonville area related to an individual with an outstanding warrant.

In a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of all students and staff, the district engaged its lockdown procedures as advised by the Loudonville Police Department.

The lockdown, lasting approximately two hours, concluded once the police apprehended the suspect.

“We take any potential threat to our school community very seriously,” said Supt. Jennifer Allerding. “The safety and security of our students and staff are always our top priorities.

“We are grateful for the partnership of our local police department and their dedication to keeping our students and community safe.”

Events such as these emphasize the importance of seamless cooperation between the school district and law enforcement.

“Our high school is an open campus where students transition outdoors from building to building,” Allerding said.

“The unique nature of the building’s construction is often challenged by situations like these. However, in close collaboration with LPD, we were able to make critical transitions throughout the day today to the cafeteria, ensuring our students were fed.”

In a message to families this afternoon, Allerding encouraged families to discuss the day’s events with their children and encouraged students to seek assistance from LPEVSD staff and counselors for support.

Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, LPEVSD has made adjustments and improvements to its safety procedures, including the installation of the Centegix CrisisAlert system, a safety system that allows staff to alert administrators and first responders quickly and easily in the event of an emergency.

“Using the system, we were able to lockdown our entire district simultaneously today, alerting staff and students through visual cues, intercom communication and computer alerts,” Allerding said.

“This system is just another measure in helping us to protect our Redbirds.”
