MANSFIELD — North Central State College welcomed more students for Spring 2024 Semester than it has since the pandemic began.

N.C. State welcomed 14.5% new students enrolling in college for the first time, and nearly 4% more traditional-aged students than last year.

College Credit Plus students, who are dual enrolled students earning both high school and college credit continued to be a significant segment of enrolled students.

They are also taking 3.2% more credit hours compared to the 2023 Spring Semester.

Dorey Diab, president of N.C. State is pleased more students are looking at all the options available for higher education.

“I’m pleased that more prospective students and their parents are considering the opportunity and the value N.C. State represents,” Diab said. “Through the pandemic, we saw more students enrolling in CCP and starting college while in high school.

“Now they’re choosing to continue their studies in a place they’re comfortable, with faculty they know, and clear goals to complete.”

While the continuing CCP student population is appreciated, the 12.2% additional adult students enrolling is a good sign for the local economy.

“Seeing more adults return to school, to train and retrain for the tremendous jobs available throughout the region is a good sign for area employers,” Diab said. “I believe it’s a sign that even adult learners recognize they can improve their earning power by gaining advanced skills.

“Strong schools lead to a strong workforce and more prosperous communities.”

Looking ahead, indications are that Fall Semester enrollment will continue the upward trend.
