When you battle the wind today, just keep reminding yourself it could be worse.
We are a couple of weeks away from marking the 42nd anniversary of the worst recorded blizzard in Ohio history.
It was around 3 a.m. on Jan. 26, 1978, when heavy snowfall was followed by freezing rain and more snow. Record winds of 67 mph ripped through the state, creating snowdrifts, some over 10 feet high.
So what’s a little wind and rain today?
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for all of north central Ohio that remains in effect until Sunday at 10 a.m. The advisory area includes Richland, Ashland, Crawford and Knox counties.
South winds at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected late this morning and afternoon, becoming southwest to 55 mph tonight.
That means anything not secured could become airborne. Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result. If you have something outside, tie it down or bring it inside.
Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.Â
There is also a 70 percent chance of more rain and thunderstorms today and tonight with an expected high temperature of 65.
The low tonight will be around 33.Â
On Sunday, expect mostly cloudy skies with a high near 37. It will remain breezy with a west wind of 19 to 24 mph, decreasing to 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph.
It will be mostly cloudy Sunday night with a low around 33 with southeast winds of 3 to 6 mph.
