MANSFIELD β Cheri Newβs favorite type of protein bite is called Monster Cookie β the fun-size energy snack she offers at her new (no pun intended) business venture, Madd Nutrition.
Located at 866 Ashland Rd., the local business is filled with delicious ingredients such as chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and caramel. According to their MADD Nutrition Facebook page, the bites have 100 calories and one gram of sugar per bag.Β
βHis (favorite) is Reeseβs,β Cheri added, referring to her husband Joe New, co-owner of MADD Nutrition. They both decided to launch MADD Nutrition after of years of frequenting an establishment in Lexington, which offered some of the similar teas now being sold at the shop.Β Β
βShe used to get the energy bombs,β Joe said.Β
Not only did Cheri like the drinks, she introduced them to her husband as well. Now they are introducing their own spin on the energy teas such as Carribean Crush, protein bites and meal replacement shakes (including flavors like Samoa with a swirl) to the community.
The New’s are even thinking about eventually offering iced coffees and seasonal shakes with a little something extra. Cheri added it would be Herbalife Iced Coffee.Β
Cheri believes the venture will be convenient for residents in the Madison area.Β
In fact, it was Joe who mentioned it was Doug Boliantz, owner of Boliantz Hardware StoreΒ next door, who gave them the opportunity and some additional encouragement to rent their building.
Joe, who retired from the 200th Redhorse Squadron in 2018, works one day at the Boliantz Hardware Store located next door to MADD Nutrition. The rest of the week he spends assisting Cheri with MADD Nutrition.Β
It is the location in Madison Township and the overall history that comes along with the building that made it feel like the right spot for the Newβs to start their first business together. Itβs an area they are familiar with due to living in the township and raising their daughters.Β Plus, itβs an area where Joe has also coached his daughtersβ softball teams. The location influenced the name of the business as well.
MADD Nutrition actually stands for Madison Area, New said. She added an extra βDβ to the name so that it wouldnβt be exactly like Mad Fit, another fixture in the neighborhood.Β
βItβs the perfect location,β New said, noting she wanted to bring a small business to the location and hoped others would too.
The Newβs initially wanted to name the business C and J after each of their first names, but changed their minds. They also havenβt decided whether they want to have an official grand opening. However, providing great customer service is their main goal.
New, who is a former supervisor at Kohlβs, believes she is actually good at providing good customer serviceΒ due to her former job in retail.
Though they have moved to Shiloh, Cheri continues to speak highly of the strip on Ashland Road where she operates and hopes to offer some additional perks including shake parties, though she pointed out she didnβt have a lot of room.Β
βItβs so small here,β she said, assessing the space. However, she believes there is something for everyone in terms of the 32 different types of energy teas andΒ approximately 90 flavors of shakes they offer. While they opened on Aug. 16, the couple isnβt sure if they will do an official grand-opening for the business.Β
MADD Nutrition is open from 6 a.m until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
