MANSFIELD -- The Richland Source sports staff has earned four awards this month for its high school coverage.
Sports reporter Curt Conrad earned three of those honors from the Ohio Prep Sportswriter's Association last week.
Competing in Division I with the biggest news outlets in Ohio, including the Columbus Dispatch and Cincinnati TV station WCPO, Conrad earned a first-place honor for Best Investigative/Enterprise story on his three-part series: Changing Landscape: Conference Shakeup Begins This Fall.
Conrad also won a second-place honor in Best Column for his work: Gurney Stood Firm in Face of Adversity, involving coverage of Shelby referee John Gurney's death after a long battle with cancer.
The Hillsdale graduate was third in the Writer of the Year category, behind only Steve Blackledge of the Columbus Dispatch and runner-up Joe Scalzo of the Canton Repository.
In addition, Richland Source Managing Editor Larry Phillips was selected last week for the Northwest District Media Award for Print/Electronic Service.
Phillips will be honored at the OHSAA Spring Roundtable on Tuesday, April 25 at the Centre in Bluffton, Ohio.
"We are thankful for what Larry does to help promote our students across Northwest Ohio and are excited to recognize him this year with this achievement," the Northwest District Board noted in a press release.
