OLIVESBURG — All the extra roadwork paid off for Crestview’s Tommy O’Neill.

A senior and the newly-crowned Richland Source boys cross country Runner of the Year, O’Neill placed 14th in the Division III race at the state cross country meet earlier this month at Fortress Obetz. He finished in 16 minutes, 15.9 seconds, earning All-Ohio status and a seat on the podium.

“I put a lot more miles in this year,” O’Neill said afterward. “I put a lot of time and dedication into the sport, so it was nice to get All-Ohio this year.”

O’Neill’s state finish capped a spectacular run through the postseason. He won a district title at Galion in 16:20.2 and was third at the Tiffin regional in 16:38.6.

O’Neill qualified for the state meet all four years of high school. He finished 125th in 18:22.5 as a freshman in 2018 and was 81st as a sophomore (17:29.9). He finished 100th in 17:25.2 last year.

O’Neill is joined on the All-Richland Source team by six other state qualifiers.

Mason Hendrickson, Shelby: A senior, Hendrickson saved his best for last. He finished second at the Galion district in 16:27.5 and was fifth at the Tiffin regional in 16:49.9. He put an exclamation point on the season with a 22nd-place finish at Fortress Obetz (16:17.6), earning All-Ohio status.

Joey Aquino, Lexington: The sky is the limit for Aquino, who placed 45th in the Division II race at the state meet. The freshman finished in 16:38.3 at Fortress Obetz. Aquino was sixth at Galion district in 16:50 and 13th at the Tiffin regional in 17:12.6.

Chad Taylor, Galion: A sophomore, Taylor finished 59th in Division II at the state meet in 16:45.4. He was fifth at the Galion district in 16:48.9 and finished 11th at the Tiffin regional at 17:07.6.

Isaik Schoch, Mapleton: Another talented sophomore, Schoch was 45th in the Division III race at the state meet in 16:49.4. He was seventh at the Lorain Community College district (17:47) and punched his ticket to state with an 11th-place showing at the Youngstown regional (17:55.8).

Huck Finnegan, Shelby: A junior, Finnegan placed 73rd in the Division II race at the state meet in 16:53.5. Finnegan was third at the Galion district (16:36.6) and 22nd at the Tiffin regional (17:33).

Ethan Peebles, Lexington: A senior, Peebles kickoff off the postseason by winning the Galion district in 16:17.1. He was fourth at the Tiffin regional in 16:45.9 and capped his senior season by placing 78th at state in 16:57.2.
