BOWLING GREEN — The Ohio Cardinal Conference will be well represented at the state swim meet next week in Canton.
Lexington’s Jacob Hathaway and Ashland’s Rylan McDaniel each won individual district titles Friday at the Division II meet at Bowling Green, while relay teams from Ashland and Lex also claimed district titles.
The top two finishers at the district meet earned automatic qualifying berths to the state meet. All other state bids are based on time from the various district meets.
A junior, McDaniel sailed to victory in the 100 yard breaststroke. His winning time of 56.35 seconds was more than two seconds faster than runner-up Dan Gyurke of Sandusky St. Mary (58.91).
Hathaway encountered more resistance in the 100 backstroke. He touched the wall first in 53.15. John Briggs of Lima Shawnee was next in 53.80.
Ashland’s Bailey Parsons will join McDaniel and Hathaway in Canton after finishing second in the 500 freestyle. Parson finished in 4:43.67, less than a second behind district champ Kellen Rigg of Bryan (4:42.86).
Lexington’s 400 freestyle relay team won a district title in 3:16.18. Ashland’s 200 medley relay team won in 1:36.10, followed by Lexington (1:36.20).
In the diving event held earlier in the week, Lexington’s Max Roth, Bobby Keller and Grayson Howe all earned state berths, as did Mansfield Senior’s William Payne. Roth led the charge, finishing second with a score of 440.90. Keller (379.75) was seventh while Howe (357.70) was eighth and Payne (331.40) was 10th.
The top 10 divers advanced to state.
