MANSFIELD -- The North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby will take place June 22, but youngsters across the region are already beginning to tinker with their cars.
A number of key dates have been released by the derby committee for the racers. But perhaps the biggest news for the event is that STARTEK is the title sponsor.
"We want to offer a huge thank you to STARTEK for making this year’s race possible," said North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby official Ruth Kinsey. "We look forward to working with STARTEK."
The race takes place June 22 on the North Main Street hill in Mansfield, with a rain date of June 23 if necessary.
The event includes the Stock and Super Stock Divisions.
In the Stock Division, participants must be 7 years old by June 22, 2019 and must not turn age 14 on or before July 31, 2019.
In the Super Stock Division, participants must be 9 years old by June 22, 2019 and must not turn 19 before July 31, 2019.
Friday, May 10, 2019 is the deadline for payment to order a car for the 2019 race and to place any order for parts that may be needed. For the North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby Association to order your kit or parts and have them available on Builder’s Day, it MUST have the sponsor’s fee by this date.
There is also the option for racers who would like to go to Akron and pick up their car before or after Builder’s Day. Ruth Kinsey can order a car for racers who would like to pursue this option.
Stock and Super Stock Rules
The 2019 rule book and plans are on the All American web site www.aasbd.org. The rules are subject to change so racers should be sure to keep checking the All American website for the most up to date rule changes.
Builder’s Day will be Sunday, May 19 from noon to 5 p.m. Builder’s Day will be held at the Richland County Fairgrounds, Home Road, Mansfield. Lunch will be provided.
"Please plan on being at the Builder’s Day the entire time if you are building a new car," Kinsey said. "You will be working on your own car. Any racer is welcome and strongly encouraged to bring his/her car to Builder’s Day to make any necessary updates so you will be ready for inspection."
There will be knowledgeable derby people on hand ready to assist you.
As a fund raiser for this year’s derby, the event will be selling t-shirts. The shirts will have the identical logo as the racers’ shirts, however, the family t-shirts and the racers’ shirts will be different colors.
All shirts must be paid for when ordered. Orders are due Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Official Registration Date
Registration forms are due on Builder’s Day ~ Sunday, May 19. The registration fee ($60) is not due when racers turn in their form.
"The information on the form is used for other paperwork we must do for Akron," Kinsey said. "It is also important for us to have your t-shirt size so shirts can be ordered."
