SPARTA – Highland Local Schools announced Thursday it will soon be leaving the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference and rejoining the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Scots were members of the MOAC for 27 years before leaving to join the newly formed KMAC in 2017. Highland High School Principal Chad Carpenter said in a press release Thursday that the school board voted Wednesday night to rejoin the MOAC, and the principals of the MOAC officially voted Highland into the conference Thursday morning.
Highland will continue all sports with the KMAC through the 2020-21 season, Carpenter said. The football team will stay in the KMAC through the 2021-22 season, and by the 2022-23 school year, all teams will be competing in the MOAC.
“We have had great interactions and appreciate all the member schools of the KMAC,” Carpenter stated. “Ultimately, the move into the MOAC will provide more opportunities for our student-athletes.”
Highland was a charter member of the MOAC when it was established in 1990, alongside Ridgedale, Cardington, Elgin, Mount Gilead, Northmor, North Union and Buckeye Valley.
The Scots were among seven MOAC schools to leave the conference in 2017 and form the KMAC, including Cardington, Centerburg, East Knox, Fredericktown, Mount Gilead and Northmor (Danville came from the Mid-Buckeye Conference).
