MANSFIELD -- Tammy Hammett carded an 80 to take the first round lead in the championship flight of this week's Tri-County Women's Golf Tournament, played at Oak Tree Golf Club.

Dawn Thornton and Linda Kidwell are tied for second with scores of 83, with Cindy Wheeler and Puttu Bhat following close behind with scores of 84 and 85 respectively.

The second round is Friday, July 26 at Westbrook Country Club.

The annual Tri-County Women’s 36-hole golf tournament is being held this week. This is the former Richland County tournament which has been held since 1952. There are 29 participants in this year’s event.

In the First Flight, leading the way is Joyce Vanatter with a score of 83, followed by Vicky Varvel with an 87, and Bev Messner with an 88.

Second and Third Flight Leaders are Jean Cook with a score of 93, and Brenda Earhart with a score of 94.
