MANSFIELD -- Tammy Hammett rolled to victory Friday in the final round of the Championship Flight at the 2019 Tri County Women’s Golf Tournament.
Hammett grabbed the first round lead with an 80 earlier this week at Oak Tree Golf Club. She maintained a stranglehold on the lead, scoring an 88 in the final round at Westbrook Country Club. She finished with a combined score of 168.
Second place in the Championship Flight went to Dawn Thornton with a score of 90, and a combined score of 173. Cindy Wheeler, with a combined score of 175, finished third.
This is the former Richland County tournament which has been held since 1952. There were 29 participants in this year’s event.
In the First Flight, Joyce Vanatter had a four-shot lead coming into Friday, and took first place with scores of 83 and 91 for a combined score of 174. Second place went to Vicky Varvel with scores of 87 and 96 for a combined score of 183.
The Second Flight winner, Jean Cook, had a six-shot lead to start the day and won by 16 strokes over second place finisher Sherry Phillips.
The Third Flight winner, Brenda Earhart, started the day with a 10-shot lead, and finished 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Nance Lefever.
The Senior Low Net winner was Joyce Vanatter with a score of 136.
Organizers stated that a huge “thank you” goes out to the host golf courses, Oak Tree Golf Club and Westbrook Country Club, their respective staffs, hole sponsors, and door prize sponsors.
"We could not do this without your support," organizers stated.
The 2020 dates for the Tri County Tournament will be July 29 and July 31. The host courses are yet to be determined.
