PICKERINGTON — Caleb Branstetter thrives under pressure.
The Galion senior finished second in the high jump competition on the final day of the Division II state track and field tournament at Pickerington North’s Panther Stadium, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches on his third and final attempt.
Branstetter is no stranger to pressure-packed situations. He cleared 6-5 on his third attempt Saturday morning and, at last week’s regional meet at Lexington, cleared 6-4 on his third and final attempt before winning the regional crown with a leap of 6-6.
Branstetter wasn’t the only area athlete to come up big at Pickerington North. Clear Fork’s Bekah Conrad placed 11th in the shot put competition with a throw of 37-7.
Shelby’s Kayla Gonzales was 14th in the 1,600, finishing in 5:27.41. Ontario’s Brie Trumpower was 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:24.47.
Shelby’s Huck Finnegan competed in the 3,200, finishing 15th in 10:22.34.
