Mixing just the right ingredients, Johnstown cooked Wheelersburg 32-14 in Saturday night's Division V state semifinal game.

Tough to find an edge early, the Johnnies and the Pirates fashioned a 7-7 stalemate through the first quarter. Johnstown's offense jumped to a 16-7 at halftime.

The Johnnies' control showed as they carried a 22-7 lead into the fourth quarter and pulled away to qualify for their first state championship game appearance.

The Pirates finished the campaign with a 12-2 mark.

Johnstown brings a 13-1 record into the state finals against Orrville (12-2). The Red Riders buried Liberty Center 38-7 in a running-clock affair during the other state semifinal.
