FREDERICKTOWN – Will Hartley has been selected as the next head varsity football coach at Fredericktown High School, athletic director Nate Bellman announced Thursday.

Hartley served as the Freddies' head coach from 2015-2017. His teams were 19-14 during his three-year tenure, which included a MOAC co-championship and a Div. VI regional final run.

Prior to that, Hartley served on the Freddie sideline as an assistant coach, including a long run as the defensive coordinator.

Hartley said, “I would like to thank our Superintendent Dr. Susan Hayward, High School Principal Brent Garee and Athletic Director Nate Bellman for this exciting opportunity. My staff and I will look to bring stability back to the program and start increasing the number of athletes choosing to play football. We have a core group of young men dedicated to the sport which we need to build our numbers around.”

Bellman indicated he is thrilled to have Hartley rejoining the Freddies as the varsity coach.

“I am excited about Will Hartley taking the reigns of our football program again. He has been a staple in the Fredericktown football program for many years. He is also an educator at FHS, where he teaches World History and US History. Will is highly respected in our school system,” commented Bellman.

Bellman added, “I would like to thank our search committee for all their time, patience and hard work throughout this process along with our administrative team. Will Hartley is the right man at the right time to lead our football program moving forward. He understands what being a Freddie is all about and I’m confident he and his staff will instill that into our young men.”

Hartley understands the tradition of Fredericktown Football.

“I truly want our young men to be proud of playing football at Fredericktown and we will work to impress that upon them at every opportunity,” said Hartley.

According to Bellman there will be a “Meet the Coach” night in the near future where community members, parents and student-athletes will be able to meet and visit with Hartley. The date and time will be announced in the near future.
