GALION — Galion had not won a high school football playoff game in 35 years, until Saturday night.
The last time the Tigers claimed a postseason victory, it was the 1985 Division II state championship game, an epic 6-0 upset of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney.
That streak ended at Unkrich Stadium in emphatic fashion as coach Matt Dick’s team rolled Lutheran West 55-7 in a Division IV, Region 14 clash.
The blowout win gives Galion a chance to renew an old Northern Ohio League acquaintance next week in a trip to top-seeded Bellevue.
Getting there was easy for the 16th-seeded Tigers (4-3). After intercepting a pass to begin the night, Galion drew first blood when quarterback Wilson Frankhouse hit Jackson Staton for a 4-yard score and the romp began.
Frankhouse threw for six touchdowns and added a seventh on a run. Coming into the contest he had seven TD passes on the season, and nearly doubled his total in one night.
The Tigers coasted to a 41-0 lead in the second period and enjoyed a running clock throughout the second half.Â
The 17th-seeded Longhorns dropped to 2-5.
