GALION — Jay Luikart will take his place among the best of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.
The Galion Graders center fielder was chosen to play in the GLSCL All-Star Game on July 20 at Prasco Park in Mason when the league announced its all-star selections Monday.
A Hillsdale graduate and sophomore at Wright State, Luikart is batting .304 with a team-high five home runs and 17 runs batted in. He is tied for fourth in the GLSCL in homers.
Luikart was also selected as an alternate as a pitcher. He is 1-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 4.35 earned run average.
Galion’s Kiato Hara was selected as an alternate at second base. Hara is batting .340 with eight doubles and a team-best 28 runs scored.
The GLSCL All-Star Game will be played July 20 at 7:05 p.m. There will also be a showcase for big league scouts at 2 p.m., open to all-stars and alternates.
The Graders are 10-20 on the season and are in eighth place in the GLSCL’s North Division. Galion played at Royal Oak (Mich.) on Tuesday night.
