TIFFIN -- The Ashland girls golf team won its fifth invitational in six tries to start the 2019 season by blitzing the field Friday during the Tiffin Columbian Invitational at Seneca Hills Golf Course.
The Arrows won the event with a 308, followed by runner-up Shelby at 363 and third-place Sandusky Perkins at 378. Ashland's Anna Watson was the medalist with an even-par 71. Shelby's Nicole Jones and Ashland's Kira Moore tied for second at 73.
Ashland's remaining individual scorers were Klaira Paramore 79, Sarah Anderson 85 (personal best), Livia Sponsler (90 personal best), and Abby Fossaceca 96.
"I am so pleased with the awesome start we have had for the 2019 season," Arrows' coach Nancy Noble said. "The kids have been so busy the last two weeks, and having been working so hard on improving.
"It’s been a long tough two weeks and the team is rising to the occasion. Having three scores in the 70’s and having two personal bests make for a winning formula, and makes it easy to coach."
Ashland returns to action Saturday at North Canton Hoover’s Mid-West Golf Classic Invitational at Skyland Pines Golf Course with a 1:45 p.m. shotgun start.
