GALION, Ohio  The Galion City School District and City of Galion Fire and Rescue are proud to announce the winners of the 2014 Galion Fire Safety Poster contest.

The contest was open to all students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students were required to create posters that show different aspects of fire safety.

“This contest was originally started by the state and cut several years ago,” City of Galion Fire and Rescue Chief Phil Jackson said. “We decided to continue the program because the response from students was very positive and we believe teaching them about fire safety is a very important life lesson. Plus, the students really enjoy riding in the fire truck!”

Each group of winners also had their photo taken with Chief Jackson, and the first place winners’ posters will be displayed in the City of Galion Fire and Rescue office for the next calendar year.

“I want to thank Chief Jackson and the City of Galion for sponsoring this contest for our students,” Galion City School District Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “Fire safety is a very important life lesson for our students, and we appreciate Chief Jackson’s work to help teach this to our students.”
