JEROMESVILLE -- Hillsdale High School intends to celebrate its class of 2020 on Friday, June 12 with a socially-distanced, in-person ceremony.

The Hillsdale Local School District joins other Ashland County school districts -- including Ashland and Mapleton -- in planning a relatively traditional graduation ceremony.

With approval from the Ashland County Health Department and in compliance with the requirements set out by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, the district will honor its graduating seniors.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 12 at the Hillsdale High School Stadium, pending weather. Back up dates include Saturday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. or Sunday, June 14 at 2 p.m.

Gates will open up two hours prior to the graduation's start time to allow for required social distancing. Orange traffic cones will be stationed at each of the four entrances to ensure eight feet of social distancing.

At each gate to the stadium, a health department member and a representative of the Ashland County Sheriff's Office will collect graduation tickets and signed waivers from all who enter the stadium.

All in attendance are required to wear a mask while entering the stadium and walking to their seat. Once seated, they are permitted to remove the mask, but if they move from their seat, the mask must be on and properly in place.

All members of the Class of 2020 will be given a mask for the occasion. They too may only remove masks only while seated.

Per another requirement from the Ashland County Health Department, only six people are allowed to attend per graduate, despite their age.

The ceremony will be available online, too.

Anyone with COVID-19 or related symptoms is asked to stay home, and those with underlying health conditions should "think twice before attending an in-person event."

A row of parking spots will be available on the soccer practice field for those who choose to watch the graduation from their car.  Parking will be on a first come, first served basis on graduation day.
