William W. Roberts, age 66, of Bellville passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Hospice House in Ashland following an eleven year battle with cancer.
He was born September 22, 1947 in Blaine, Kentucky to John Benton and Elizabeth Louise (Perry) Roberts and moved to Mansfield as a teenager. A 1965 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Bill remained a lifelong area resident.
A U.S. Army veteran, Bill served two years of active duty during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and awarded the Sharpshooter Badge. Patriotic, he was a member of the American Legion.
Hard working and dependable, Bill was a faithful employee of Tappan for 25 years before they closed their doors. For the next 15 years, he worked as a semi driver for Milliron, BFI, and Rumpke before illness caused him to leave the work force. Even so, he was always busy working on cars, campers or anything. It was thought that Bill sometimes “bought stuff, just to fix it up.”
Now more alive than ever in his heavenly home, Bill was a member of Faith Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union. He also loved fishing, as well as camping and golf. He and his brother often visited their childhood home in Kentucky for hunting trips, though more often Bill did the cooking instead of the hunting. He also cherished his family, spending their annual vacation together in Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 32 years Gail L. (Ridenour) Roberts, daughters Tammy and Rodger Reel, April Stallard, Lisa and Will Hobach all of Bellville, and Jamie Monroe and her fiancé John Fry of Mansfield; nine grandchildren Josh, Sophie, Zach, Chloe, Caleb, Carmyn, Liz, Sarah and Dylan; two sisters Judy Myers and Annette Roberts of Mansfield, a brother Robin Roberts and his fiancée Kelly Griffith of Butler, his mother-in-law Ilene J. Ridenour of Bellville, his beloved Pugs Bob and Tom, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Charles R. Ridenour.
Friends may call Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4-7 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where the service will be held Saturday at 11 am.
