William G. “Bill” Miser, Jr., 84, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, on Thursday, October 30, 2014.
Bill was born on October 1, 1930 in Carswell, WV to William G., Sr. and Minnie Belle (Phipps) Miser. He was a member of Stewart Road Church of God, where he served as an elder. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country proudly as a United States Marine, retiring after 20 years of service with the rank of Gunnery Sgt. He shared many stories with his family and friends about his years in the Marine Corps and the various positions that he held. He had also retired from the Richland Co. Sheriff’s Dept. after 11 years of service and was self-employed in the construction industry for many years.
Along with his wife, Jean (Rutledge) Miser, whom he married on August 6, 1955, Bill is survived by his son, Dr. Fred (Debra) Miser of Powell; five grandchildren, Jenna (Doug) Keesling, Jessica (Chris) Fossum, Jonathon Miser, Jacquelyn (Michael) Messer, and Joseph Miser; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, William, and Adalyn Keesling, and David and Eden Fossum; one brother, Richard (MaryAnn) Miser of Beckley, WV; and two sisters, Nancy Miser and Sue Manning both of Beckley, WV.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Mansfield Stewart Road Church of God, 1425 N. Stewart Rd, Mansfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at the church with Pastor Samuel Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with full military honors performed by the Richland Co. Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield Stewart Rd. Church of God, 1425 N. Stewart Rd, Mansfield.
